Mass and Leadership Experience for Beyond Sunday Scholarship Recipients

The annual Beyond Sunday Fellows Faith and Leadership Encounter was held on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at the Cardinal Rigali Center in St. Louis. Each year, this event, presented by the Roman Catholic Foundation and open to all Beyond Sunday high school scholarship recipients (Beyond Sunday Fellows), provides insight into an important topic and offers the opportunity for fellowship and Mass with the Archbishop of St. Louis.

At this year’s Faith and Leadership Encounter, Beyond Sunday Fellows and their parents began the day with a Mass celebrated by Archbishop Robert J. Carlson and several priests from the archdiocese in the beautiful St. Vincent de Paul Chapel at the Cardinal Rigali Center in St. Louis. Music performed by a choir of Fellows was led by Cathy Pescarino, former youth minister and current Director of Creative Arts at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in O’Fallon.

After Mass, students enjoyed lunch and made connections with other Beyond Sunday Fellows from Catholic schools throughout the archdiocese. Local Catholic leaders spoke to the Fellows about taking action to strengthen our Church and community. Speakers included…, who … and …., who … Fellows were excited to learn how they can take steps now to make a positive impact in their communities.

The service activities Beyond Sunday Fellows will perform in spring 2020 will complement the talks given at the Faith and Leadership Encounter, centering on the theme of making a difference through leadership.

About the Beyond Sunday Fellows Program

The Beyond Sunday Fellows program seeks to provide young Catholics with more than just tuition assistance. While scholarship support is an important component, the Beyond Sunday Fellows program also aims to form young Catholic leaders through faith and community service. Each year, Fellows participate in Roman Catholic Foundation-sponsored service projects and a shared faith experience, helping them build their identity as group of young Catholic leaders.
